I keep a bag in the car that has clothes, a sleeping system, rain gear, food/water etc... I think it is important to have something like this, especially if you live in a rural area. I change contents of this bag out based on the seasons. I'm a little overdue on doing it for cold weather, so I'm taking care of that today.

Posting here to encourage others to have a "get back home bag" as they are often called.

If anyone has one and wants to share that would be cool too.

Smart. Blanket and water for sure.

Extra ammo and two guns also

Exactly. Who needs preparation for emergencies when you have a gun. Just shoot yourself a blanket. This is why as a prepper I only have 72 hours of food storage but a 10 year supply of ammo. I'm absolutely not going to be a determent to my community when shit hits the fan.

That's rediculous hyperbole. Guns however longterm are far better for sustaining life in terms of being able to hunt for food and protect oneself. So you bet I'm making sure I have enough ammo and a couple of rifles.

one thing that is good to have is candy bars and those hot hand warmers... the kind you open the packaging and shake them up. you can get a lifetime supply almost at costco fer cheap

They have an expiration date for a reason, don't actually buy a lifetime supply.

guess what fuck face, went downstairs grabbed me one shook it up, nice and fucking warm they about 4 years old

only kikes promote expiration dates, given your name i suspect you on being a nigger faggot

Yeah I definitely take expiration dates with a grain of salt.

They say kerosene is only good for a year and I know that is BS from personally using some that was in a heater which that wasn't used for 5 seasons. Thing burned fine.

Most of them work using reactive metal powder, which is unlikely to remain completely free from oxygen ingress over long time periods.

Pajeets should buy as much expired stuff as possible. No tears bhenchod.

I keep both and cliff bars. The one thing that sucks tho is when they freeze they are impossible to eat. Could probably thaw with the hand warmers.

i mean every once in awhile you'll hear stories about people surviving off stuff like that, buy a couple throw them in the glove box

IM SLEEPIN IN IT MOFUCK!! ITS COLD AS HELL MOFUCKA!!

[–] 1 pt

i only have gloves for changing tries, but if im going far, i bring a blanket

I keep a small dismantleable shovel, water, a few power bars and a deck of cards. I should get some of those hand warmers.

Well, maybe that's how I want to die?

Like a penguin in the Antarctic .. frozen to to ground, eyes wide open. With spit frozen out of my wide open mouth...

In the fresh air.

I have a coat that I wear when it rains and keep it in the car. I should move it from the trunk to the back seat so it is more easily accessible if it rains.

That's it. That's all I need for winter where I live.

If we get winter weather where I live, we've got serious issues about to be upon us and I'm not going out. Can you imagine how bad the traffic will be if it snows in Los Angeles area? I work someplace and they sent everyone home because a thunderstorm (it was a good one too) was bearing down on the city, I told people that were leaving they were crazy to try to drive in that storm. They left anyways, and the next day they all complained about how bad it was and asked me how my drive was. The only issue I had was shit on the road and some flooded streets changed my route.

My concern with my winter get home bag is that drinking water stored in the car will freeze. I hate that it has no emergency water supply in cold months.

Emergency water doesn't freeze. Get the packets of the "Blue Cans" - its all distilled water, which is fine for emergency situations. The rigid gallons are not made to last longer than 6 or so months and will even randomly split and leak on a shelf. Get the long-term stuff.

I'm also seeing a lot of people that don't pay attention about food. Forget the cliff bars since they'll go bad in less than a year in the heat. Get the Coast Guard regulated food bricks. $7/8 for a 3600 kcal brick that'll last 5 years in your car without issues. After that 5 years, replace it and crack the old one open and taste-test it to remind you of how it tastes. I did this with my kids so they knew how it tasted, both basically said it was like a cookie.

If you just learned 2-3 things here, please do research on YouTube or such for car bags. It'll blow your mind in just a few minutes for just about any random video.

I have solution for this but I have not tested it yet. I keep a small cooler, water bottles, tin foil, and an emergency candle. I would line the inside of the cooler and wrap the bottles in the foil, then try to melt with radiant heat from the candle. Seems like it should work.

If you just keep the bottles in the cooler, they will never freeze. Im a contractor so I have water with me year round. Stays pretty constant temps in the cooler.

[–] 1 pt

It does eventually. It takes a lot longer, but once we hit a week of straight of weather in the 20s, it will be frozen for sure. If you're just taking water out with you for the day then it won't, sounds like that is what you might be talking about. I'm keeping a case in the trunk and I don't touch it.

Candle will use all the oxygen in the cooler and then go out. You can also calculate the fuel needed to melt a certain amount of ice and it's nontrivial.

Fire is the answer, maybe a butane stove.

I wasn't planing on closing the cooler.
