I grew up on Nickelodeon. I think most Gen Xers were. That and after school cartoons and Saturday morning cartoons...which are long gone and replaced with JewCo, LLC trash programming like Dr. Phil and Divorce Court.

To be fair, most saturday cartoons were toy commercials.
I was too late. My 1980s cartoon idea was space faring polar bears wearing kilts that crash-landed on a tropical planet. For some reason, there was a whiny moose as well, but I can't remember my reasoning for it. Furries would probably have fucked it up anyway.

I knew that at the time and on occasion I was able to get some of those toys. :)
