Back in the early '70's interest rates were as high as 7.5% on savings and CDs. It actually made a difference for someone with not a lot of money.

I remember CD rates being double that at some point.

The purpose of a savings account isnt to earn a return. It's to protect liquid assets with minimal volatility and less cost than sticking tens of thousands of dollars of cash under your mattress.

Sure! After inflation, after I've made my mortgage payment, insurance payment, paid my bills, oh and bought groceries, I'm going to put the rest of my -$500 in my savings account. Looking forward to NIRP!
