Uses a voltage cell for the bias voltage. These are chemical reference standards that can last for decades, and are often used as voltage calibration devices.

Bias needs almost no current, it's just a voltage.

He says as much in the video. IIRC, I've seen one of those on Shango's channel a long time ago? I like the build quality and the quirky but elegant solutions like the fine tuning mechanism and the mechanical band select indicator.

Yes. They were not common, but do show up at times.
