My dad would have loved that thing.
Shit man, I've been to expo's that have these ancient tractors with steam engines on them. And the shit still runs.
I miss the old ways...metal thermostat housing, thermostats that are mechanical. Things worked or they didn't and you were able to take it apart and fix the broken bit, reassemble and get back to work.
Thermostats...you can still get the old Honeywell mercury switch round units. Same as they've always been.
My stupid car has a sensor in the thermostat, so I can't replace it with one that works normally. I'm tempted to go buy an 57 Chevy and cage it.
Ah, you mean on a car. Yeah, those are stupid these days. Way too many sensors and shit to go bad.
Wow, using polluting internal combustion engines that long ago.
Steamers are even more polluting, being a portable coal-fired boiler on wheels.
They were less a tractor and more a source of horsepower that could drive itself to the job site.
Yea, PTOs are still widely used today: snow blowers, generators, mower decks and so on.
I use the heck out of my PTO driven tiller and post hole auger. It'd be nice to find me a 6-7' finish mower for my bigger tractor.
