Just lots and lots of silicon and germanium sliced that you can tell had been sputtered and modified. It looks like they may have been trying to grow their own silicon as well.

A slice from a nearly forgotten time. I have to admit, seeing some of that old equipment makes me cringe! In the beginning of my career I did a lot of bench work and used equipment maybe 10 years newer than this lab. There was always a problematic cable, probe, power supply, fixture, something ... stupid shit to sort before the real work began.
