That's some Mr. Wizard shit right there.

Plot twist: the original price and the current price are the same because of inflation.

Some stuff, it's more. Not the HP test equipment tho, that stuff ran 5 digits in today's cash.

[–] 1 pt

Right, but that's what I mean, 25 dollars could buy you a lot back then.

Pick me up a functioning o-scope, if you will. Two or more traces if possible.

Brand new Rigol 200MHz/2ch/FFT/math scope is $300. The old stuff is...old.

[–] 1 pt

At one time, not long ago, all this stuff was precious state-of-the-art.

I know. It's amazing how quickly stuff changes.

I've got an oscilloscope that's smaller than a phone now. More functionality but damn, I'd still like to have one of those.

Problem with those old scopes is the CRTs are getting tired, the switches are getting worn, and every capacitor in the thing is leaky. You can get a brand new Rigol 200MHz/2ch with FFT analysis and math for $300.

SpouseAnon would love this.

Will be posting more pictures soon.

How much did you buy? Those are sweet prices!

[–] 0 pt

A lot. Pictures coming shortly.

[–] 1 pt

damn dude. I can tell you, without a doubt, THAT is alot of old equipment..

[–] 1 pt

It is. Pictures on the way shortly, as soon as I can retrieve them from devices.

[–] 1 pt

At those prices, it's not even worth renting floor space and carrying all that heavy shit.

A lot of the older stuff is losing value as newer devices come on the market that can run rings around the old stuff. 10 bills will outfit your test bench with equipment people from even the 1990s could only dream of. A big problem is the stuff is just old and worn out, and there are no new parts.

Even the giant Tektronix is said to be hanging on only because the government has to buy US made stuff. But at $300 for a good scope from Rigol vs. the exact same feature set from Tek @ 10,000...yeah.

I love all that old stuff, I used to have a bunch of it just looking cool on the shelf...but in practice I use a $20 multimeter for everything. It's not like I repair hi-fi equipment either, just guitars/cars/appliances etc. As you said, the new stuff blows the old stuff out of the water.

Such a bargain!

Mr Carlson's Lab would love to have them.

I saw a few flyers for that Carlsons channel laying about.

He's such a great piece of knowledge, I really like watching him describe things he's doing.
