its existence was only revealed in the early 2000s after six decades of secrecy.

Now imagine what's being kept secret. I hate to even go there.

Yeah, wonder what was keeping it secret. It's not like the technology was valid a year after the war ended.

Presumably, it was repurposed for other things they didn't want us knowing about.

They were kept around until the 60s and released in the 70s with the existence of Enigma.

I suspect, while they are making a big deal out of these pictures, it was probably more "Holy shit, look what's in this box!" when someone was cleaning archives.

That beautifully typed (by whites) letter in your link indicates that on March 1, 1943 we were intercepting a significant amount of German communications. When you layer that on top of the fact that we were deciphering Japan’s communications much earlier (early enough to have had forewarning of PearlHarbor) it would appear that Roosevelt was working in an environment that we might refer to as “total information awareness.”

This has massive implications. It would appear that we were not “Fighting” a war with Germany. We were “Directing” a war with Germany.

It rewrites the whole narrative of World War II to some extent. Perhaps that is why it was kept secret.
