COLUMBUS – State Representatives Josh Williams (R–Sylvania Twp.) and Melanie Miller (R–Ashland) today announced they recently introduced the Right to Know Act – legislation that would require hospitals and other healthcare providers to offer genetic testing to confirm paternity when a child is born to unwed parents.

“Strong families are built on trust, transparency, and truth,” said Rep. Williams. “The Right to Know Act gives parents the opportunity to make informed decisions from day one, reducing future conflict and helping lay a stronger foundation for the children at the heart of these families.”

“House Bill 435 prioritizes the well-being of children by empowering parents from the very beginning,” said Miller. “By ensuring that families have the option of genetic testing at birth, we are encouraging stability, honesty, and certainty that will benefit children throughout their lives.”

If passed, the bill will amend sections 3705.01 and 3705.09 of the Revised Code to ensure the following:

At the time of birth, hospitals and other institutions must offer genetic testing to confirm paternity before an acknowledgment of paternity affidavit is signed. If the offer is declined, parents must sign a waiver acknowledging they were offered testing. House Bill 435 has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee and awaits a hearing.

It's good, but I would also pair it with "Genetic testing results with then be deleted afterwards. The sale or otherwise distribution of genetic information outside of the mother and presumed father will result in the summary incarceration of all those involved without trial for no less than five years and all assets given to the affected civilian persons without tax."

You'd never get it with just the provision of data collection and sales.

That is what the entire endeavor is really about.

I support the idea behind the bill as its presented here; Agreed, How it would be implemented, if passed at all, doubtful, it fucks with the child support industry, would solely benefit the company providing said genetic testing. Charge parents to provide the testing, mine the data for insurance companies to know who is likely to get which disease statistically, then sell the data to everyone as a guaranteed lineage list with associated information...
