It may seem like such a small thing but I appreciate it very much. It does help. I've not succeeded in quitting nicotine, except 1 time 10 years ago when I quit it for 1 whole year, if I succeed now it is because of other people's encouragement.

Have you ever been dependent on nicotine or anything else?

I wouldn't go as far as to say I've been dependent, because that's a whole other level of affliction that I don't want to erroneously claim. But I would say that I've had issues with substance abuse, alcohol primarily. However, if I were to have been classified as an alcoholic, it would have to be high functioning.

I've recently gotten back into reading scripture and that's really helped me, but I wouldn't try to force that on anyone else. Everyone needs to find their own way.

I haven't gone completely cold turkey, but I have gone from being a daily drinker to having half a glass of wine a few nights a week. The hardest part for me is finding something else to do with my time. The activity of consuming an alcoholic beverage is cathartic.

Whatever works for you. I hope you have it under control.
