Shacks In the woods are nothing new, even really nice shacks. Off grid means he has water/power/septic and in the larger sense I would say off grid means food production or you are still relying on the grid for your survival in the bigger sense. I met a guy who made a three story house suspended from chains in an old redwood forest, neat stuff. Oh, they finally made him not live in it because permits and codes and such BS.
