Yeah this seems like mostly fake news. Worms do eat organic material from the soil, but then they shit it out. Which makes the nutrients from the decaying material more readily available as food for plants. That's the part they left out. Worm castings are a universal fertilizer. It won't burn plants and it improves soil aeration and drainage.
