By the time they reburied him there wasn't much left. I think his grave was fucked with in the years after the Revolution because he was seen as an enemy invading their homeland. When they tried to repatriate him it was much much later, probably about the 1950s or 60s and there wasn't much left of him. I think they moved some graves but they definitely paved over a bunch of bodies.

And no one knows about this. It's a tiny little spot (about 1/16th acre) left over from the mass grave with cheap markers. The only reason I know about it is I did some historical shit for the area years ago. I know there is some British medal marking or something signifying his grave at least.

edit: I just checked and they have since developed it into an actual graveyard. I'm sure he at least has a stone. When I was there it was just a vacant lot with some markers stuck in the ground.

Because the reverse would happen. 🙄
