Yep. All too common. I recall one time in particular which just happened to involve a "parasailer" who base jumped off of a cliff and was doing crazy aerobatics which resulted in him losing his airfoil in his chute, and he plummeted a couple thousand feet to his death. It took days to find him, and one of those searching- whom I knew well- ended up having a bad fall and had to be choppered out. When they finally found the base jumper idiot, he was hanging from tree branches- stretched out into a ribbon of guts and sinew about 30 feet long.

It was quite the spectacle. It was a hang glider festival. They had music and beer in town park, and some friends and I were hanging out watching these idiots and saw it happen. I decided to poke around and see if I could find anything about this incident, but no luck. It was in the early nineties. What I did find was this gem of a story:

Some Canadian jackass who took passengers for rides on his hang glider had a woman fall off and plunge a 1,000 feet to her death- and apparently he had it all on video. Fucking guy swallowed the memory card to hide the incriminating video. LOL. Couldn't find any follow up on this though.
