This is in front of the Feldherrnhalle (files.catbox.moe). This special memorial day was used to temporarily hold the bronze coffins of the 16 (files.catbox.moe) (note the red columns, in front of which each sat a bronze coffin (files.catbox.moe) in the original photo) that died in the Beer Hall Putsch, thus why this specific ceremony was so important to the NSDAP, but this structure was was originally built to honor the traditions of the Bavarian Army decades earlier. After, SS always remained on guard here. You can see better how after this Special Memorial Day in '35 how it appeared in this photo (files.catbox.moe). The orientatoin can seem confusing, as the left-side of the Feldherrnhalle was where a large NSDAP plaque and honor guard would then stand, not at the front (files.catbox.moe).
Basically, The 16 fallen were regarded as the first “blood martyrs” of the NSDAP (files.catbox.moe) and on 9 November 1935, the dead were taken from their old burial graves, placed in special engraved bronze coffins, and then to the Feldherrnhalle. After a lot of special ceremonies, visits by Hiter, the original blood flag, speeches, etc, the SA and SS then carried the bronze coffins (files.catbox.moe) down to the Königplatz, where two (files.catbox.moe) Ehrentempel (files.catbox.moe) AKA Honour Temples (files.catbox.moe) had been constructed. In each (files.catbox.moe) of the structures eight of the martyrs were interred in a sarcophagus bearing their name (files.catbox.moe). And like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, SS stood on guard 24/7 in front of each (files.catbox.moe).
Both structures were destroyed after the war. (files.catbox.moe) The Allies (files.catbox.moe) (Jews) took great joy to have the coffins emptied, the bodies cremated, their ashes were literally poured down a sewer, and the coffins melted-down. BTW. The bodies of those executed after the Nuremberg Trials got the same treatment.
How Germany could go from this much fucking winning to this much fucking losing is really disheartening.
