That look when you're confronted with your shame.

That glorious pause before the inevitable phrase "I'm a single mom."

You could see the look on her face change when Jesse started that question. She knew where it was going. Priceless!

That look of pure regret in her eyes and a last grasp at any semblance of integrity. Coalburning whore.

Who watches cable anymore?

[–] 2 pts

I haven't had cable in over 10 years. I had it for 2 years after I moved out and lived on my own. Then realized it was useless/too pricy. At the time when I cancelled, the retention CSR on the phone was flabbergasted that I wasn't going with a competitor. "Wait, so you won't have cable TV at all? But then you won't have any TV or movies available. Nothing. If you're going to a competitor, you should tell me so we can beat their offer." Me, "Nope, cancelling cable. Don't have satellite. I just need fast internet. I don't have time to watch TV and movies."

Becoming a cable tech in 2010 is what did it for me, I saw what cable does to people in their own homes, cut the service less than a month in.

Just the name “mudshark” makes me snicker.

And what a baller way of phrasing that question!

Looks like she was slightly tempted to go all Greta and say, “How dare you?!”, but realized that him just asking her isn’t malicious, so she had to just take the hit.

I guess once reality hits, progressiveness isn’t so cool anymore.

who didn't see that one coming?

Going by her reaction... the single mother surely didn't see it coming, holy shit that was great. Well-timed and well-delivered; she can't claim that the guy was being malicious. He cleverly made it into a "genuine" inquisition. This is why she was so stunned- if he had said "Well, I'd love to know what your niglet's father has to say about this, but we all know he isn't around! Nyuk nyuk!", then she could claim outrage and victim status.

But when posed as a simple question, she had to think about it. And it clearly hurt her. In that moment, she briefly considered "I'm not wanted by at least one man, even though I gave him a child". That has to fucking hurt.
