From what I recall the measurements of the magnetic field strength have not been released publicly since 2010, so only an insider with access to the data could do that analysis. The rest of us have to rely on indicators like that paper to tell us how vulnerable we are now.
I won’t say we shouldn’t try to protect things, but even the next peak of solar activity in about 10 years is likely to fry all but the toughest electric devices. I’m not sure if you can protect anything from the micronova itself. The global electric shock might melt solid iron. Moving to high altitude near caves is the ultimate answer.
Interesting. Just for shits and giggles, I taped an analog compass to a piece of furniture built into the house years ago and set the gauge perfectly to due north. It's off by a fraction of a degree today. It's barely perceptible but it's moved.
