Most people have moved away but I used to host multiple large BBQ's every summer for all of our friends. I just told them to bring drinks if they want something specific. If I were to do the same thing today it would cost me something like 5x as much probably. Maybe I would be able to do 1 a year.

I used to be happy if I left Costco and spent less than $100. Now, less than $300 has me feeling like I missed something. That is each week. So groceries now cost more than my mortgage payments.

I'm in awe at how much you eat.

Having teenagers in the house means they're always hungry. They bring friends over, food goes faster, then it's like $500 a week. At least at my house it is not junk food that they're eating.

I spend around $100 to $130 a week for groceries. In the 1980s when I was a kid we would have walked out with 1/2 store with just $100.

In the early to mid 2000's $100-150 was enough for a month depending on how you cook/eat and where you lived.

It is painfully comical when I go to a store for "random things I forgot" and it turns out to fill a small bag for ~80.

"Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago"?

You fucking bet I was better off 4 years ago. I was saving more money, I was making more money, food and other goods were cheaper and I was not looking WWIII in the face.

Remember what they took from us.
