I haven't seen one of these in many years.

1st grade I had my first mishap on a merry go round. Ended up with gravel in my mouth, bleeding lip, scrapes and scratches, ripped my pants. I was running along on the outside of the merry go round full of kids, pushing on the bar to make it spin faster, laughing as they shrieked and strained to hold on ... tripped over my own feet and went down, didn't know enough to let go of the bar...

ripped my pants

We had these pants called Toughskins that came in rusty red, burnt orange, and lime green which were made from a weave of kevlar and 200 grit denim purpose built for adolescent adventure.

They felt like shit when you first wore them but you couldn't damage them short of an acetylene torch or angle grinder.

Yup, I remember those! Fugly colors! Lmao

I would have been in the market for them in the '60s, but I don't think they existed yet. I know kevlar didn't. We did have tarpaulin... but no one was making clothes from it.

The move with Toughskins was to run and drop into a double knee power slide.

Some lessons we learn the hard way

I was back doing it again the following week, equipped with the knowledge to let go if I went down. Funny, I don't recall it ever happening a 2nd time.
