It would mean there’s a subset of people who aren’t able to engage with ideas meaningfully. They merely respond to stimuli like a chatbot, recognizing the topic and certain keywords, searching their database for a pat, prefabbed opinion on the matter, and printing a response. I guess if it’s the small tail of the bell curve then it’s not that big of a problem and it’s to be expected, but I have a fear the middle of the bell curve is this way too. I have a feeling it tends to be less obvious in face to face situations and more obvious online. The NPC problem basically.
