Plus AirBNBs don't have indoor gyms, pools, and free breakfast. If you're really lucky, the pool will even have a waterslide.

Stayed at a hotel in Eureka, California. They had a really nice pool with a hottub, and all the weed farmers come down from the mountains and party at the hotel on the weekends. Super friendly folks, had a lot of stories to tell.

You never meet anyone at an AirBNB.

There are a couple of great hotels in Eureka. Used to live up there and long to return (although I'll be leaving Ca).

If anyone ever has the chance to visit Eureka, please do so. Take a drive from town up 101 through Arcata and all the way up through Orick. Orick is a really interesting tiny town (used to be a lot of meth there - not sure what's left). But the big beach on the way there is something to see and walk on.

After Orick continue north and take old 101, now known as the Newton B. Drury Parkway. This routes you through all of the big BIG redwoods. At nearly the end of the Parkway you will find the Prairie Creek trailhead. Park there and walk east up in to the forest. Follow the trail up up up until it levels out and keep a watch on the right for an honest to God fairy circle (a collection of redwood trees growing in a tight circle). You can hike down off the trail and climb in to the middle of the fairy circle. It's kind of a holy place, if you're in to redwoods and nature. Anyway, it's fucking beautiful.

When you're done there, continue north to Crescent City. Not too much there except for Ocean World. It appears to be a cheesy run down roadside thing, but it's actually pretty cool with a great tour.

After Crescent City, turn north east and head up 199 along the Smith River. If it's warm, bring a bathing suit. This road is one of the most beautiful things I've ever experienced and there are a couple of great spots to stop and wet your toes. Continue on to Cave Junction.

Now, if it's around midday, stop at Taylor's Sausage Country Store. If it's near dinner time, stop at Carlos Restaurante. You will not be disappointed.

Now turn east along 46 and prepare for a windy ride up the hills. The end of the road is the Oregon Caves National Monument. What a place! You can swear you're being watched by Bigfoot himself. Stay at the hotel there. Eat the shitty food. TAKE A CAVE TOUR. Hike around a bit. Enjoy the SILENCE and lack of radio waves. What a wonderful destination.

Then, when all done with that, head back south to Eureka. It's a short vacation you will not regret.

I've been explaining this to my wife when she goes on her girl trips. Airbnb used to be cheaper but that was when it was just regular people renting their house for a week. Now it's completely commercialized with hidden costs. They can't seem to get it through their head that the hotels are the better deal now.

I haven't used AirBNB, is that what it's like?

It used to be great, but has degraded to that in many circumstances

Same as what said, it used to be an amazing way to travel and save money on lodging. It was crazy cheap, and people took a lot of pride in making their spaces nice, often left out complimentary treats and bottles of wine, etc.

That was back when people were doing it for a little extra money, before people figured out they could make $$$ money by cutting corners and doing it as a full time job.

And perverts figured out they could hide cameras everywhere to watch people get naked and have sex.

Not from my personal experience, though maybe I just got lucky.

Air BnBs have their place. Sure, most of them don't have the same amenities as a hotel, but it's a different experience entirely. What an Air BnB has over a hotel room is SPACE. Oh, and cooking amenities. If you have a decent sized family, an Air Bnb can totally be a better choice. Can. Not is, but can. Again, there are a lot of factors.

A year ago, we stayed at an Air BnB in Reno and it was SO MUCH BETTER than a hotel. We could spread out, be relaxed about food, and generally not bother each other during down times. But then, The Peppermill in Reno is awesome too, so it really depends on what sort of stay you're having.
