The reason you can't buy a small, 4-cyl truck anymore is because of "global warming" regulations. Government regulations require a 4-cyl engine to get 150 miles per gallon (hyperbole) while larger ones are not affected by those restrictions. So the auto industry is either forced to only sell monster trucks or add a surcharge of thousands of dollars on the price of a smaller, more fuel efficient truck. This is how fukt up the government is. By forcing "global warming" bullshit laws, they have achieved the exact opposite of the intent of the regulations.
It's the same thing with EVs. By nature, an EV should be tiny, flimsy, and compact... easy to recharge. Like a golfcart. Instead, the government insists they compete with full sized gas cars complete with heat/AC, headlights, windshield wipers and power windows. If they were serious about reducing CO₂ emissions, they would allow golfcarts to operate on all secondary roads during daytime hours, restrict their speed to ~25mph, and not require mandatory insurance. Only THEN will EV use become widespread.
