there are MANY types of winter tires, with/without nails, with different "rubber type" and so on
most of the issue is on black ice, road not draining water and driver not seeing the problem

I live in Orange County, CA...all the tire shops try to sell me all season tires. It's snowed 1 time in the 24 years I've been stuck here, and that was in March when it rained, sleeted, hailed and snowed in one storm.
I'll never forget the look on the face of the spic that had never seen snow falling before as he walked out of the store.
