TBH the deep secrets of contractions are not well understood even among native English speakers. It's pretty common to see a stray apostrophe on any word ending with letter S.

It is getting worse by the day though. I find most written articles to be almost unreadable lately. I so miss the glory days of editors. Hell, I would settle for a mediocre proofreader sometimes.
