Existentialism is a philosophical thought process of the issue of human existence. It's not a belief system. Maybe that's why you're so confused.
Atheism is the belief that there are no Dieties/Gods/God.
I disagree with your definition of atheism. A claim that a god exists is being made. I reject the claim due to lack of convincing evidence.
This is not the same as making the positive claim that no gods exist. There’s not substantial proof for that claim either.

The verdict in a court of law is read as "not guilty" if the prosecution hasn't met the burden of proof to convince the jury of guilt. Accusations of guilt or innocence are positive claims that have a burden of proof. A "not guilty" verdict does not prove the defendant "innocent", nor does the defense have an obligation to prove innocence. They merely have to mitigate the accusations of guilt.
Theism claims a god exist. Atheism doesn't accept the claim. This is the only position that atheism takes on anything. Making a claim that no gods exist is as impossible to prove as any other negative claim. There could be a god. I just don't have enough evidence to solidly believe in one. Why do you believe in the God of Bible over other religions?
