Not even then. Getting "wasted" from years of training is a myth, it's the stress of it that destroys people mentally. I uses to know quite a few 50+ people who used to be pro athletes in their youth and just kept going and improving, could take on people in 20s with ease.

The key is to keep going, but often stop and reassess your training, and most important of all - know the importance of rest and recovery.
