Oxygen is a waste product from plants. It's fun, the world used to be populated entirely by anaerobic bacteria, and the first photosynthesizers were anaerobes despite actually generating oxygen. Most of the life in the world died off when oxygen hit levels that were toxic to them. It's only the bacteria that adapted to tolerate oxygen that survived.
