This is just the tip of the iceberg of big pharma scams and bullshit. Many years ago I heard big pharma spends $7000 per doctor per year. They send a rep to the office with free lunch for everyone, and then they give the doctor samples of pills to give away. Doctors get to go on these big pharma sponsored vacations in some wonderful destination. They get to have fun and big pharma conveniently provides them with lectures on new medical advances they need to know about. These days that $7000 is probably over $10,000. Big pharma also has control and influence over medical schools, so they're grooming the doctors to be big pharma pill pushers before they even get started.
Generally, big pharma has any medical problem defined in such a way that one of their pills is the solution. With acid reflux they tell people that their stomach is too acidic. The stomach is supposed to be acidic, but what a coincidence, they're selling pills that shut off stomach acid. Let's not even think about what happens to protein break down when you don't have stomach acid. We're solving your acid problem. It couldn't possibly be that the valve at the top of your stomach isn't working properly and keeping the acid where it belongs.
Then there's one of their biggest goldmines, the cholesterol lowering drugs. They managed to define something indigenous to your body as something foreign and destructive. Did you know most of the cholesterol in your body was produced by your liver? Now they're selling you pills that interfere with the proper functioning of your liver and telling you that it's healthy. Did you know that there are people with high cholesterol that aren't having cardiovascular problems and people with low cholesterol that have had heart attacks? Ultimately, cholesterol levels and damage to your arteries are largely controlled by your diet, but instead of changing that, people want magic pills that enable them to live and consume garbage while still being healthy. Big pharma sees your desire and is ready to sell you a lie.
If you want some cardiovascular advice, added sugars and typical plant oils are contributing to this. There are also doctors who found that eating a whole foods, vegan diet stops all degenerative cardiovascular problems. That one's really controversial. It's a dietary extreme and there's no fine testing of what can be in or out. It has been shown to work, though, and if you're desperate to live, you might want to adopt it.
