The reason they were hung is because they practiced a religion which tortured and killed others, in particular children. It wasn't the christians who foolishly thought they had magical powers, it is the stupid women who thought murder, sacrifice, and torture of others would magically give them benefits.
I think the meme is pointing out the mass murder of innocent women as most were not practicing anything but herbal medicine or other pagan non Christian life styles.
