We got crappy toys in our cereal when I was a kid.

the good old days when products gave incentives to continue using them. Laundry detergents used to put towels or full drinking glasses- made of glass- in their boxes of laundry soaps. Cracker jack put these little tiny toys you could put together and they actually worked!

Now products don't even bother advertizing unless it's virtue signaling or some fucking pharmaceutical bioweapon used to fix fill-in-the-blank.

I learned to read upside down while my dad read the newspaper at the breakfast table.

I was taught "the more you know, the more you're worth". Every morning I flipped through the state newspaper, delivered to our doorstep.

Does anyone else notice how many younglings do not read? 18-20 age group.

More and more people use audiobooks or podcasts. I enjoy audiobooks but nothing compares to a real paper book in your hand. I just bought a book from 1895 that was some school kid's English classic "Silas Mariner" (the kid wrote her name in pencil '08-09).

Now kids read about how to perform home abortions and fellate their friends.

Now at my meals, unless I'm with my sweetheart, I read novels on my phone.

So much better.
