No. "We're going to surround you, cut you off from any food or anything being sent to the city, and wait for you to surrender. Once you become hungry, you'll surrender, especially as you watch my men holding feasts almost daily, just out of range of any of your archers. I'll also send raiding parties at night to probe your defenses, and terrorize your people. Civilians who live outside of your walls will go missing, only to be found once more soaring through the air via one of my catapults. Your people will turn on you and throw open the gates before long."
What a reductive way to view sieges. A lot goes on during a siege, for both sides. Good planning means being able to hold out for 2 fucking years, which is incredible, considering most castles could barely hold 1,000 men if you had a big one and were really important. The besieging army doesn't have to worry about keeping its numbers down for lack of space. They'll essentially build a "town" when they make their encircling camp.
