Writing seems to be a good indication of the decline of civilization. Many people are amazed at the beautiful letter writing of ordinary soldiers in the Civil War. That was an era when school children were taught that the Bible, Shakespeare and the Declaration of Independence were models of good writing. By WW2 and Vietnam, writing had been corrupted by movies and popular magazines. Now with texting, it's at the level of "how R U? I B gud."
