galadriel is a pretty central character to jrrt's lore and appeared in the movies. in lore is considered among the most beautiful / knowledgeable / powerful elves to ever exist. amazon's version of her more or less spits on the lore, though.

tolkien even constructed languages for the races, and the etymology of 'galadriel' stems from the elvish word galadh which means tree.

don't think it has any relation to the fallen angel. her story certainly doesn't mirror that. further, that angel is usually refered to as 'gadreel'.

Was she that much of a badass in the lore, though?

I guess there’s a gap in my understanding of it. I have skimmed the pre-rings stuff, and found that to be interesting - faenor, etc. and obviously from The Hobit on. I read through the Numenor history. But I never really saw much that went into what Galadriel did, or saw anything to describe her as the badass that Amazon makes her out to be.

when i say she was powerful, i don't mean physically like she is being depicted by amazon. she's among the most powerful magical users in the lore, definitely in the top 5 (maybe 2?) for elves. a lot of this is due to her being bestowed with one of the rings of power. but even aside from that, she's extremely intelligent as shown by her being one of the few to not be fooled by sauron. lore states she's able to cloak her mind from the most powerful beings including sauron, who is unable to perceive her mind, but she could perceive his.

as for her beauty, you have gimli, who loathes elves, so captivated by her beauty that he requests only wanting a strand of her hair.

right - tolkien wasn't foolish enough to make her she-woman, but i didn't realize she was that magically powerful. I thought there were the high elves, and then the tier below (half elves?) where Galadrial and Elrond existed.

...and as far as the events themselves, were there that many major happenings that she participated in?

I guess where I'm going with this is whether or not Galadrial deserves to be held in the same regard as Elrond, who fought in battles and was a badass, Feonor, who was a badass, Gil-Galadwho was a badass. I'm not trying to diminish her character, i just didn't realize that she had the same level of accomplishment as the others.
