>Mind-bogglingly idiotic. It's more efficient to burn diesel fuel in a diesel engine car, then it is to generate electricity with it, and then charge an electric car. Absolutely. Every time you convert energy from one form to another you lose some of it. Electricity is the most expensive form of energy but also the most convenient. Great for house appliances and the like but the internal combustion engine is still the way to go for transportation.
