I imagine it varies by state but when I was a teenager I got caught shoplifting and I had to pay 3 times the sticker price of the items I attempted to steal plus court costs

I actually come across one in rural Kentucky last year. One of the old analog pumps. I was rather shocked to see one in use still. Although boat docks have them still.

Haven't seen any pay after pumps in a long time. Maybe one left in the middle of nowhere.

But in Texas that's also a good way to get shot at, especially in the middle of nowhere.
