Give them an ask, I think you'll find you misunderstood something at some point. Never been to NASA but I know some pilots and a fair few airforce people and I used to know a number of hobbyist night sky watchers got pushed into it as a kid and as much as I've looked for and been presented arguments the only compelling things I've ever seen that detracts from the moon landing or the manned space missions is what I've heard about about the van allen belts but now that i just looked into it again, it seems they measured them the old fashioned way, Geiger counters on satellites. it seems the are more like bars of ionizing radiation around the planet that there is enough space to slip between in relative safety.
