In Texas, the Libertarians are pushing to replace our property tax with a sales tax.
The poor hate this because they see sales tax as 'regressive'. (I.e. the poor spend 100% of their money and save nothing, therefore they are taxed on everything.)
The wealthy hate this because property (a) is only a small % of their annual spending, and (b) there are plenty of exemptions (like Ag-exemptions) that prevent the largest land owners from paying much property tax.
Sadly, our politics is rarely about doing what is 'right' and more often about doing what is 'right for me'.
Only foreigners should be paying taxes, and those taxes should be high. Make them flee back to the blue states.

Replacing one tax with another is a crap solution imho.
End chapter 313, where ISDs can hand out tax exemptions to businesses. Cap the growth State spending can increase yearly even more. Cut State funding to universities that charge more than enough for tuition to cover operating costs if they weren't wasting money on stupid shit. In general cut State funding for stupid shit.

propety tax is the only for sure tax. sales tax? people can just buy less. income tax? loopholes and unemployment. but property? even if you sell a property, someone will be paying the property tax. and when they need more state / county income, they gouge homeowners. gotta feed those niggers, ya know.

Property taxes mean you never own the property and will always be renting it from the state. Fuck property taxes, fuck business/corporate taxes and fuck income taxes.
