It's the wires. You think you are going to keep a neat and tidy work space, but you get overwhelmed by the wires.
There's a wire for your woofer and wires for your tweeters, and a wire to connect them to your computer and a wire to the power brick.
There's a wire from your scanner and a wire to its power brick; there's a wire to your printer and to its power brick.
Then there are wires to your external hard drives, wires to your monitor, wires to your modem, a wire coming in from the outside of your house, wires to your keyboard, wires to your mouse.
I've got a power bar that has another power bar plugged into it, with another power bar plugged into that, because there are so many fucking power bricks. When I pull my computer out, it's like something is growing out of the back of it, there are so many wires. All this is behind my desk and I dread the thought of ever having to fix a problem with any wire because there are dozens and dozens of them running everywhere.
It's not untidiness, it's fear of the wires. We're all afraid to touch the wires, lest something break on our computers. Oh god, the wires, the wires!

Ya the wires made my eye twitch. The filth from failing to clean up after yourself is real easy to fix(at least temporarily; I'm sure if I cleaned it, it would be like this again in a week since this person has no habits of cleaning up when finished eating), but the wires are madness.
When I set up our two computers this last time I was very intentional about the wires. Those Velcro things that stick to the back of desks keep them very tidy looking. I also downgraded sound systems to single wire ones, just to no longer deal with eight wires a piece.
