While I despise the *needless, senseless* killing of animals, seagulls are essentially vermin with wings. This man wasn't overly cruel in what he did- bashed its little dumb bird head into a wall, probably didn't feel a thing.... and he got his stolen property back. Nothing to criticize here. Also a good lesson for the kids who saw this. If this is horrifying to them, they need to see it more. Some of us grew up on farms and watched animals that we basically grew up with be fucking slaughtered. It sucks, it's ugly and unpleasant to watch/hear, but it's part of life. Can you imagine telling a man from 500 years ago that people would be offended by a man smashing a bird's head in? He would probably say "What happened over the next 500 years that turned you all into such gigantic fucking faggots?!"
