Temple/=Church
Church is where Sunday service happens, along with baptism, pot lucks, and ordinary mid-week activities.
Temples are where all the eternal mumbo-jumbo takes place like being married/sealed to your spouse.
People normally only go to the temple twice for themselves. Once to receive their eternal blessings, and one to be sealed to their spouse. If they go any more than that they'll be doing ordinances for their ancestors or attending someone else's sealing.
Edit: It's not taking about Mormons btw because most people don't attend the temple regularly.
