First, don't mix apples and oranges. The US involvement in the European theatre and the US war with Japan were two completely separate conflicts, with a few overlaps. In fact, we came very close to going to war only with The Empire of Japan.
While I do not disagree with your basic premise, you said it yourself:
Japs attacked a military target We fire-bomed and nuked civilian populations
Actions have consequences. And war is a horrible thing. In modern, industrialized conflict, there is no difference between the military deployed in direct combat, and the civilian population that works in the factories that support them. It is all one.
There's no way the Japanese could have known that they would get nuked in the end. But at the same time, they should have assumed something was going to happen. If you read their writing on the subject from that period, they assumed that the US was weak and degenerate and would simply take our spanking and quit. They made the classic error of viewing the US through a Japanese cultural lens. In Japanese culture, if you're beaten once, then you are defeated, period. You're supposed to accept your defeat, and your shame, and that's the end of it. The attack on Pearl Harbor was supposed to be a fight-stopping samurai master-stroke. Off with your head. Fight's over, you lose.
In the American philosophy, if you are physically capable of getting back up, then the fight will continue until you can't. Yamamoto tried to warn them.
But at the same time, they should have assumed something was going to happen...
They did, they assumed we would go to war and fight with honor. But thanks to 'men' like you who think burning children alive as a legitimate act of war we surprised them.
But go ahead make your case that we had the moral high ground....
You make some rather stunning leaps about a complete stranger. The number of factual and assumptive errors are nearly breathtaking. Almost as if what you really desire is to simply place me on the defensive and shut down the entire conversation.
How very jewish of you. And entirely mistaken.
1) "They did, they assumed we would go to war and fight with honor."
No they did not. Because if you knew anything at all about Japanese culture you would know that they assumed that as gaijin, we not only have no honor, but are in fact incapable of even understanding the concept.
2) "But thanks to 'men' like you who think burning children alive as a legitimate act of war..."
First, I was not there. Second, I have never burned children alive in my life, nor have I ever approved of it.
I repeat, war is a horrible thing. In modern, industrialized conflict, there is no difference between the military deployed in direct combat, and the civilian population that works in the factories that support them. It is all one.
It is easy to see that you have no direct experience with it , for if you had, you would already know it to be true and thus requiring no explanation. All the wishing in the world for it to be otherwise will not make that so.
I can only conclude that you are of the sort who would have simply given up, accepted defeat, apologized to Japan, and done nothing at all.
I am not at all surprised, as there seems to be rather a lot of that going around these days.
Imagine the cognitive dissonance needed to start a thread with the shown meme shown and comment:
And then we dropped the sun on them. Twice.
Then to claim:
I have never burned children alive in my life, nor have I ever approved of it.
You literally created this thread to celebrate that very concept and are an imbecile of the highest order.
In fact Afro'murica target civilians more than any other country in history. They are one and only country which killed civilians of his ally in order to sell my country to Stalin. Yap, they very intentionally mass murder civilians in order to force government to bow to communist. Same civilians which risk his life to rescue crews of bombers. Germans usually wipe out entire village ( including elderly, pregnant woman, child's ) if they find that someone from this village help americanos to escape. Or just look on 'contract' between Borman and Afro'murica. They make deal that Afro'murica will not destroy German industry, bombing will only try to disable it. So German recovery after WWII are not so miraculous, Industry are not damaged as this look from pictures. Take Dresden as example. Instead to destroy industrial area, bombing was focused on civilians. Yap, Afro'murica are not good guy, have more blood on his hands than Stalin, Mao, Hitler... alltogether.
btw. I'm fine for nuking Japan... more or less, ( instead of civilians better target will be shitty government including his 'emperor' ).
