I remember reading about how people in Russia would read the daily copies of Pravda that were posted on billboards in the square. They knew that everything the government said was a lie, so they trained themselves to read "between the lines", analyze the lies and what was being lied about, and how, and also hear what was *not* being said, and from all of that, derive a pattern from the shadows, and find a semblance of the truth. I remember asking myself, "How can people live like that?" Now I know better.
