I remember reading about how people in Russia would read the daily copies of Pravda that were posted on billboards in the square. They knew that everything the government said was a lie, so they trained themselves to read "between the lines", analyze the lies and what was being lied about, and how, and also hear what was not being said, and from all of that, derive a pattern from the shadows, and find a semblance of the truth.

I remember asking myself, "How can people live like that?" Now I know better.

I found I needed to start doing that in 2001 while deployed. Stories about what was going on in Afghanistan were similar enough that they creeped me out. Then once I was sure we were being lied too, I started looking for things that were different and assumed that's where the truth was hidden.

I was talking to my husband the other day and asked, "I wonder if Russia would help us out with a little bomb in the capital to get rid of the communists?" Know what I'd do if I were the only one who knew for a fact that there was a plot to completely destroy NYC, Wash. D.C., LA, and San Francisco with nuclear weapons, and had clear and convincing evidence that it was, I shit thee not, going to happen?

I'd sit on it. Not tell a fucking soul. I'd grill steaks. Have a couple beers. Fuck the wife like she was the prom queen, and then sleep the sleep of the righteous. Because I would do all that knowing that 90% of my nation's problems were about to end.

I get the idea, but those battle suits are just wheeled out for photo ops every couple years by every major military. No tech comes from them, they're just a boondoggle. Think UCP camo and you'll understand.

I'm retired US Army SF (18Z) back in 2009. I have 1/4 of a century of government boondoggles under my belt. I also recognize the difference between sound military policies that are intended to safeguard the nation, and a complete breakdown in sanity.

It used to be that you couldn't get a security clearance if you're gay. Now you can't get one if you're not.
