Uhh...it's pretty easy. You talk about important topics before marriage such as:
1) Valid grounds for a divorce (breaching the marital contract by e.g. cheating on your spouse, enforcing a dead bedroom, felonies, becoming an addict, committing crimes against your spouse, etc), and how they darn well had better be willing to go The Shining on you if they want out for a reason that isn't a breach of vows.
2) How coercion is unacceptable. Full stop. Whether that's medical care, joining a yoga studio, or visiting your crazy aunt Lulu, you are not allowed to coerce your spouse.
3) How broken homes are terrible for children, and creating one is only acceptable if one partner is engaging in behavior that's upticking the children's ACE scores. Disagreeing on vaccines isn't even close. Think "beating children bloody" or "smoking crack in the living room".
4) Do you by default assume the media and government are lying to you, and that any truth they do tell is accidental. If a prospective partner trusts either, you RUN.
5) You get a pre-nup to remove the divorce-for-cash-and-prizes incentive unless both partners have enough assets and income to make a potential divorce a financial net negative for both. It's not about whether you trust your partner, it's about distrusting the crooked legal system.
