I wouldn't actually mind a car that ran on electricity, but was powered by a diesel generator inside the car. Not like hybrids, where you switch to the engine, but a more efficient mains generator.
This is a good idea, I like it. A lot of race cars are going to electric in 2022, so I have decided not to follow them anymore (FWIW I followed the real racing that sweeds and norwegians domainated, sprinkled with some germans and brits). I can see it coming, all these electric cars whizzing around the track for 40 mins to return to the pits and get charged back up by diesel generators. I was at a race in December and there were already diesel generators everywhere to power the paddocks for the crews, the cameras, and the announcers booths, food vendors etc. This electric push is just all part of the clown world. How normies can't see through it makes me think of the original matrix movie... they either cant see through it or don't want to, or are part of the system to enforce the blindness.
Little known fact: Charging and running an EV from a Diesel genny, the bigger the better, is still more efficient than burning said fuel in an ICE car.
The genny can always run at it's most effiecient while the car cannot, due to its changing load profile and gets worse for short drives. Might be different for a long haul 40 ton truck.
You lose energy when charging (converting into stored energy). It would be more efficient to use a hybrid then a all electric.
Don't think so. Watched a good video on the subject a while ago, but it's in German. Looked it up: https://youtu.be/5V7DvFFBLJg
Electric cars are more energy efficient by a factor of 2.5 to 5.9. Even today's best diesel engines only manage overall efficiencies of around 15%. The rest is lost as heat. An electric car charged with electricity from a remote oil-fired power plant still achieves an efficiency of 35%. This takes into account power plant efficiency, power transmission and battery charging losses. Even today's best combustion engines cannot keep up. Their potential has been exhausted for years. The exhaust gas balance of the diesel car is also significantly worse than that of a modern oil-fired power plant.

There are 2 types hybrids. This one i believe is what is known as a parallel design much like diesel electric trains. The train has a highly efficient diesel generator that runs electricity to the wheels. Im not aure why it didnt catch on for vehicles but it may have something to do about the engine having to be running so the car can move.
Most hybrids are exactly what you proposed
