There are 2 types hybrids. This one i believe is what is known as a parallel design much like diesel electric trains. The train has a highly efficient diesel generator that runs electricity to the wheels. Im not aure why it didnt catch on for vehicles but it may have something to do about the engine having to be running so the car can move.
