The Borg got retconned into Zefram Cochrane's era in "First Contact" because it's modern Star Trek so it has to be completely fucked by time travel. Here's a great story idea for free for those dipshits at Paramount: The events in "First Contact" led to the *USS Botany Bay* being assimilated by the Borg, and that leads to the battle of Wolf359 being led on the Borg side by a Locutus who was formerly Khan Noonian Singh. That leads to the eventual loss and assimilation of the entire Federation in this dark alternate version of The Next Generation. Shave Chris Pine's head and I bet he'd play a better Picard than he does Kirk. The final uplift at the end would be when the planet Vulcan is assimilated, and the Borg obtain Vulcan Philosophy, which leads to their becoming a far better version of themselves than they'd previously been.
