I've been denied credit cards and car loans because I don't have enough debt. Wut?

The system views no credit history as worse than a mid grade credit history. My friend, who makes more per bonus check than j make in a year, got denied a car loan due to this, whereas I sailed through despite being technjcally unemployed at the time.
like much of life, its a system, and the rules can be deduced, or are often explained quite clearly, as they are for credit reporting.
When I was denied a car loan I told the sales guy "I have to start somewhere, so why not today?" - he laughed and told me to build my credit at Rent-A-Center. Fuck that prick.

Ways that are less retarded
Get a credit card from your bank. Worst case is you gotta give them 500 bucks, and you get a 500 dollar limit. This is called a secured credit card. Pay it off and you level up to un secured credit card.
Line of credit from bank. I have one, but I don't use it. Its less points to NOT have one.
