There's no conumdrum with electric cars -- the batteries just aren't good enough. That's the whole deal. If the batteries could store three times or four times the amount of energy they store now, and if they could be recharged in a minute instead of half an hour, people would buy electric cars. I say three or four times the energy because in northern states the batteries need to run heaters, and that takes a lot of power. The batteries also need to be hardened against -20 degree temperatures.
