I think you're ignoring the actual definition. By definition, conservatives conserve. If they are not conserving our traditional legacies, history, and core values, they absolutely are not conservatives. Being right wing doesn't make you conservative. Conservatives conserve. If someone says they are conservative, it's fair to ask them what they are conserving?
